Weaving Classes

Weaving Workshop #1 - Lau (leaves)

2 hrs$100

This workshop is required for all weaving students and must be taken first. Without this course students will not understand the process of weaving.
During this workshop you will learn about three different leaves and their practical uses. We will discuss Ti leaf, Launiu (coconut leaf) and Lauhala (Pandanus leaf). You will learn how to clean, prepare and store the leaves for use. This will also be an opportunity to ask questions that might have about the weaving process.
This class is a required prerequisite for all other workshops.

Weaving Workshop #2 - Fans and Hats

2 hrs 30 mins$125

Workshop #1 is a prerequisite.
Workshops should be taken in order. There are three options for workshop #2, this option is Fans and Hats.
During the workshop you will work on making hats in the open top style, which is one of the most popular styles. If you are a fast learner you will be able to make at least two hats during the class.
We will also make lovely hand fans, that are so very easy and fast to make. It is up to you how many you would like to make. At the end of this class, you will have gained some understanding in using different parts of the coconut leaf.
And you will have some lovely weavings to take home with you!

Weaving Workshop #2 - Fans and Wall Hangers

2 hrs 30 mins$125

Workshop #1 is a prerequisite. Workshops should be taken in order.
There are three options for workshop #2, this option is Wall-hangers and Fans. In this class you will be Learning about weaving without splitting the leaf.
Wall-hangers are great for keeping your vegetables or planting your orchids, and they make lovely gifts. Fans are very easy to make and are a part of this workshop and also the Hat and fan workshop.
At the end of this class you will leave with as many wall-hangers as you can make!!

Weaving Workshop #2 - Shapes and Animals

1 hr 30 mins$100

Workshop #1 is a prerequisite.
There are 3 options for workshop #2, this option provides experience with single leaves. We will be using Launiu and Lauhala for this class, so make sure you have taken Workshop #1, so that you have the required materials.
This workshop is a shorter duration than the others, because it's much easier to make little items. During this class will focus on making fun little gifts like hearts, stars, fish, birds, pineapples and other boondoggles.

Weaving Workshop #3 - Hats

2 hrs 30 mins$150

Workshop #1 and #2 Hat and fan are the prerequisites for this workshop. Please do not book this workshop until you have taken the prerequisites. If you book without prerequisites your booking will be canceled.

This workshop focuses on hat weaving techniques only!

This is for students that wish to increase their weaving proficiency.

During this class we will practice the open top hat style and learn the closed top style. At the end of the class, we hope everyone will be able to weave at least two hats, one of each style. Each participant is welcome to weave as many hats as they can make in the 2 and a half hours.

Weaving Workshop #3 - Round Baskets and Plates

2 hrs 30 mins$125

Workshop #1 is a prerequisite. We also suggest taking one version of workshop #2 but it is not a required prerequisite. This class uses Launiu (coconut leaves).
This class teaches various sizes of round baskets and plates. You will learn how to make 3 different basket tops and hone your ability to make the bottom of the basket.
At the end of this class you will have many baskets to take home!!

This workshop is required to be retaken 3 times before attempting the advanced baskets workshop.
